Designed for Place: Creating Homes That Respond to Landscape, Lifestyle and Location

The Garden House in Torquay features customised copper cladding facade and handcrafted Austral Bricks.

Every home begins with a place. Before we think about floor plans or materials, we begin by understanding the site, the opportunities it presents and the people who'll call it home.

Sometimes that journey begins with one of our architect-designed Lifespaces homes. Other times, a project calls for a more individual design solution. Either way, the objective is the same: creating a home that feels right for both the people who live there and the place it belongs.

Different Projects. One Approach.

Every project begins with understanding the site, our clients and the way they want to live.

For many families, one of our architect-designed Lifespaces homes provides the ideal starting point. From there, we carefully refine the design to suit the site, planning requirements and their lifestyle.

For others, the design evolves through a more individual design process, developed specifically for the site and the family who'll call it home.

A Flexible Design Approach

Our homes are designed to feel as though they naturally belong within their surroundings.

Projects such as the Scandi House in Sorrento, the Garden House in Newtown and the Double Court House in Flinders demonstrate how our architect-designed homes can be thoughtfully refined to suit different sites, planning requirements and lifestyles.

Each project retains the qualities that made the original design successful while responding to the unique opportunities of the site.

Case Study One: Scandi House, Sorrento

The Scandi House in Sorrento was designed for a bushland coastal setting, sitting on a sloping corner block. The striking charred timber facade was chosen to complement the site’s beautiful natural environment, perched up among Sorrento’s Moonah trees.

Case Study Two: Garden House, Newtown

Our Newtown Garden House has been carefully refined to respond to Newtown's established character and heritage streetscape. The facade was reimagined with a feature peaked roof, an additional front window and the removal of the signature battened entry screen, creating a more open, welcoming presence that sits comfortably alongside neighbouring period homes.

Case Study Three: Double Court House, Flinders

The upcoming Double Court House in Flinders has been designed to respond to its Mornington Peninsula setting and the lifestyle of its owners. While still having the two expansive courtyards that bring light, landscape and garden outlooks into every room, this design also introduces a series of personalised modifications, including a dedicated home office, a gym and wellness space and a separate self-contained guest retreat.

Case Study Four: Scandi House, Ocean Grove

Together with the home owner, we crafted this Scandi inspired home in Ocean Grove, set on a narrow block close to the beach. To achieve a sense of space, we featured 6.8m cathedral ceilings, and blended hardwood timber and handmade Krause Brick masonry throughout the home. Other unique additions included a Lopi Italian heater in the kitchen, porcelain kitchen pendants from London, pastel pink tined tiles in the ensuite, and a mezzanine level overlooking the living areas.

Homes That Last

A successful home isn't defined by the day it's finished. It's defined by how well it supports everyday life for years to come.

Natural light, connection to the outdoors and spaces that adapt as families change all begin in the design process. Trends come and go. Thoughtful homes endure.

That's what we aim to create on every project.

A Final Note

One of the questions I'm asked most often is where we start. The answer is never with a floor plan.

It starts with understanding the site, the opportunities it presents and the people who'll call it home.

Whether we're refining one of our architect-designed Lifespaces homes or developing a more individual design solution, our aim is always the same - to create a home that's right for the people who'll live there and the place it belongs.
